LA NAPOULE CANADIAN ARTIST RESIDENCY FALL 2024

I had the honour of being selected for the Fall 2024 La Napoule Canadian Artist Residency in Mandelieu-La-Napoule, France. Hosted in Chateau de la Napoule, a picturesque chateau in Côte-d’Azur renovated by two American artists, I spent one month swimming in the 7:30 Swim Club which I founded, drinking rosé (except during Beaujolais), and spending my evening strolling the gardens. I also created work.

This project, I invited other artists-in-residence as well as La Napoule Foundation staff to create a mummer costume. Many used costumes that belonged to Henry and Marie Clews, the American artists that renovated the chateau in the early 20th century. Each mummer was photographed in a part of the chateau or garden in the dark, using an off-camera a flash and long-exposure photography to make these mummers haunt the area.
